I've lived here for 6 months, grew up in Chicago, and I just ate a pizza from Harris/Bettendorf. This pizza wouldn't even be in the top 50 in Chicago. I don't know why folks in QC insist on making a pizza with no sauce. My pizza just had meat and cheese on top of a crust, and the crust wasn't good at all, like hard on the ends. If anyone thinks this is good or great pizza, they need to get out a little more. Dry and no flavor. Two thumbs down!
Harris Pizza is a QC institution. When I was a teenager, this is where most of the guys got their very first jobs and still do. Things have changed over the years, but one thing rings true - nothing tastes has good as a Harris pizza and a cold brew.
Very popular with native quad-citians, Harris pizza must be an acquired taste. If you like your pizza crust to resemble a thin wet cracker, then you will love Harris Pizza.
update 08/03/2008 - eating crow. After moving to the Bay Area and having more bad pizza experiences in the past 4 years than during my previous 4 decades, I decided to give Harris Pizza a try on my last visit to the QCA. I thought perhaps my horizons had been broadened enough to appreciate something about Harris Pizza, and I was right. Although I am still troubled by the damp, floppy crust, the taste was delicious. With knife and fork, and plenty of napkins, I can dig it.
Harris has the best tasting pizza in the Quad Cities. Many have tried to duplicate their recipe, but none have come close. The variety of tastes offered on their menu make this restaurant one that will please everyone in your family.
